The rain in Maine falls mainly in June…

Well I haven't gotten around to posting a trip report of my Maine At hike back in June. It was a great trip even though it rained almost every day which made the steep decents kind of tricky for an old man. The plan was to hike from Stratton to Gorham. A combination of a busted knee and just too much rain caused us to wimp out in Andover and skip the Mahoosucs.

    Attached are a few photos.

Dale, Glad you survived. Hope the knee is better. Maine is great, even in the rain, but it sure is steep.

June, July and August it is rain. All the rest of the year it is snow.

Maine has had a very unusual wet season this year. I hope we get as much snow this year as we did rain.

I'm sure you've heard the story of the potato farmer from New Sweden way, (way up north in The County) who was nearing retirement age. His kin was always saying how he should plan to go south for the winter. Well, they finally convinced him and he loaded up his pick-up with what he figured was the bare essentials of living in the south and off he went. Long about the middle of February he showed up back home in New Sweden. His kin looked askance at him and asked what he was doing back home so early in the winter.

He heaved a sigh and said, "Danged if I can fugure out what people see in going south. Augusta warn't much better than here. The traffic was worse and I had to pay for a place to live. So I came home.

In all seriousness though, when I was up in The County away up north there the area around Bangor and Augusta would offer discounts for Arroostock County residents to come down and stay in the motels down there during March Madness. (High School Basketball is big in Maine and especially in The County. Lots of flks took them up on it too.

Looks like great country and a fun trip! Sorry the knee and rain slowed you down some, but I bet it was still fun.

It was a fun trip and Maine is beautiful and the people are great. Can't wait to go back. Unfotunately all of New England received more than their share of rain.
