This is especially true in Grundy County. Meth and pills keep the economy alive.

I haven't hiked south cumberland yet, but I hear that water can be hit or miss on some of the trails.

I haven't done all of the trails but water is pretty scarce unless your down in the bottom on the trail along Big Creek. I didn't see any water along the Rim trails on the side of The Stone Door.

Actually hiked the The Stone Door last month with the Boy Scouts. The only water source for the rim trails on The Stone Door is at Alum Gap. Can't speak for the other side of the park.

Yep...only source of water on the rim is the creek running down next to Alum Gap. I would call the ranger station ahead of time to make sure it has water. Took my wife on her first hike and hang there and found out the hard way that the creek does dry up. We hiked the Big Creek Rim only to find the creek dry as a bone, so we jogged the Laurel trail out just in time before they locked the gates for the night.

Thanks for the concerns about water scarcity. I'll be sure to call before hand, in case I need to bring extra.

From what I understand, at the Stone Door trail, there isn't any water. There is water at Greeter Falls, but you have to hike 1 mile to it from Alum Gap.

Just got home from the Fiery Gizzard Trail. It went well, my buddy and I both had a great time. The scenery was as beautiful as I remembered it from last time. I would definitely recommend hiking to the end of Raven's Point, what a fantastic view. Be careful when heading into the gorge on the way to Foster Falls, the trail is not easy to follow, take your time and keep your eyes peeled for the next white blaze. just Head ups, water is fairly close to Raven's, It's less than a half a mile away heading towards Foster Falls.

Best of luck to you on your hiking adventure next month. I hope everything go well for you.
    Is it hang time yet?

This looks like a great itinerary. I've not hiked any of these trails, but am very interested in learning more about them. Also, Tennessee is part of my territory for work. There is a chance I could be in this area while you are there. If so, I might like to join you.

Thanks for the update. I'll keep an extra eye on the trail.

Was water flowing? Any chance of it drying up??
