    FL>LWRSF>WIW>2014>Oct 24-26>FL Peak bagging hang

Rick needs some fresh air and I think we all do. Come on out to the Walk-in-Water tract of the Lake Wales Ridge state forest and experience some different terrain than most are used to in Florida. Sandhills made of sugar sand and some of them above 130 feet in elevation. We will have the Wood Duck primitive camp site for both nights and can do a day hike on Saturday to see the sights. For those not familiar with this terrain... it is not easy.

There is information about the site, directions to the site, etc. from this old thread:

    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...s-Day-Weekend)

and here is a suggested path to the camp site (although you could continue on the service road heading west and then go on the service road going south if you wanted to).

I will probably run out prior to the hang to verify a path to the camp site since we have changed our hiking trails a bit recently.

Thanks Samsara for getting the ball rolling on this! So looking forward to getting out since I was unable to make some other outings.
Lets figure out if we want to make up a group meal we can easily pack in for Saturday. I will dehydrate some fruit to share for sure.
Planning on being out there Friday before Noon. Will leave here after the I75 rush hour traffic starts to ease up.

If we're back home by then and settled back in.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

I'm glad she's doing better. Keep taking care of her and we'll get you in the woods when the time is right

Cool! You bring the fixins' and I'll walk in something to cook them in!

You might want to select your cooking equipment carefully. This site is almost entirely sugar sand and if I remember from our last trip out here... olddog said he would not bring his sherpa but would go ultra-light (I might be remembering this incorrectly). You might regret a DO but if anyone can cook something amazing with improvised gear it would be you

This is also the site that ruined MAD777's leg due to the sand. We didn't need to carry him out but he was in a lot of pain. Again, I'm not saying don't do it but be mindful what you carry and how much things weigh.

    See you soon!
