Robin's egg blue (sil) winter tarp.

On request of my wife, I picked up 10 yards of beautiful robins egg blue silnylon from ripstopbytheroll.com a couple days ago, and set about making her a tarp of her own. I used sunkmail’s CAD drawing I found here on the forums. It is a variation of the diygearsupply.com winter tarp. Ridgeline length is 12 feet, total overall length is approximately 14.5+ feet.

In this photo, I had already cut the 10 yards in half (basically, minus only 6 or 7 inches), and made a flat felled seam, joining two panels together along the long factory edge. Then I quarter folded the material, measured and made all my cuts.

After the sil was cut, I traced each of the tie out points onto some paper, then used that as a template to cut out my ridge, door, and corner tie out reinforcements from some 300D diamond ripstop.

My stitching isn’t anything to brag about, but here’s one of my nicer bits, attaching the ridge line reinforcement into the rolled hem around the perimeter.

All the attachment points are sporting nice plastic hardware from diygearsupply.com. Lineloc3’s on all the corners and doors, and beast dee’s on the ridge line. I used reflective gross grain to make all the attachments.

Okay, I know a tarp is redundant with a chrysalis, but it was already set up in the back yard. Besides, this tarp is for my wife, and I think she has here eye on it. Whatever it takes to get the family out in the woods

I had some scrap noseeum, so I pieced together a quick snakeskin for the new tarp.

The orange reflective glowire works great in the lineloc3’s, and as a ridge line. The tarp is attached to the ridge line with tech line soft shackle prussics.

I have the tarp pitched fairly wide, and unoccupied. The spreader bars on the bridge are just touching the sides of the tarp. With the hammock occupied, or the tarp strung just another inch or two higher, I don’t see there being a problem. I just applied the seam seal, and am letting it cure overnight. Total work time start to finish was approximately 7.5 hours.

Thanks (again) to all the innovators and suppliers here on hammock forums!

Nice job, this is on my to do list for myself. I actually bought some of the reflective gross grain to check it out. I only got a yard with my 1.1 rsn I bought. I have debated just how much to use. I am also constantly bouncing around different ideas and choices. Maybe soon I will pull the trigger and make mine.

I think I used about four inches for each tie out. Also, since the beastee dees (ridge line attachments) have a wider slot, this time I put a piece of 1" regular black as a 'base' and sandwiched the reflective piece over it. That way, the D ring doesn't twist on the narrow gross grain... something I learned with my first tarp.

That's a nice looking tarp, is that a rectangle tarp with doors? I think I'll be adding some of that sil to my basket next time I place an order from rbtr.
