DIY Blue Poly Hex Cat Cut Tarp

100_0599.jpgJust wanted to post the new tarp I just made using the Hex Tarp Pattern off the diygear site. Started as a 10 X 12 blue poly tarp, folded in half and cut to size. To get the 5" cat cut, I used the carbon rod that is in the 6 foot rokkoku kite, bent and traced. I then used scissors and cut it while it was laid out ont the floor of my kitchen. Made 6 reinforcement patches from the remaining poly and sewed up the perimeter with a 3/4 hem. 1" poly webbing for each of the 6 corners, and wha la. One inexpensive tarp to try out.100_0599.jpg

Made one very similar two or three years ago. They're a bit heavy and bulky but they'll keep you dry. Well done!

Love it. I've seen a few similar, but yours is a great example.

I've been considering doing this with a camo poly tarp just so it would look 'cool'

Did you do your hemming on a regular thread injector?

Nice work. It now looks to be more than a common poly tarp. This is a great exercise to try design function on the cheap before cutting into some expensive sil. Did you roll the hem? Also, any need to cut notches in the edging on the cat cuts before sewing the hem?

Looks awesome, was it hard to cut the radius? Did you hem the cut edges? Shoot some close ups of the tie outs.
