    Hello from West Virginia

Hello all, my name is Justin. I'm from the Huntington, WV area and this summer was my first one using a hammock. A friend of mine has had a Grand Trunk for a couple years and he really enjoys it so I put one on my Christmas list last year and also received their tree slings along with it. I hike and camp a lot but usually it's with my fiance so most of the time we're in a tent but her Christmas list this year is packed full of backpacking supplies so I'll be getting her a hammock to carry with her so we can start hanging on our trips. I have browsed through the forum a little and have learned a lot already about all the gear that's available so I'm excited to keep learning more. I've really been trying to figure out which tarp to purchase (I'll need two) but there are so many options out there it's a bit overwhelming. Hopefully I can start narrowing my choices down!

Hey, Justin. Welcome aboard. I highly recommend going to a hammock hang whenever there is one in your area or close by. It is one thing to learn about it online, another to learn it in person.

I used to live a few hours north east of where you are (Steubenville, OH). Man do I miss driving into West Virginia. If you ever get a chance drive up to Wellsburg, WV stop in at Drovers Inn when it is open. They have the best chicken wings I have ever had. I miss that place.

HappyCamper, ever do any hanging at Blackwater Falls or Dolly Sods? I went for the first time this year (twice actually) and plan on going back several times next year and maybe even a time or two for some cold weather camping this winter. My wedding is actually going to be on Pendleton Point (assuming you're familiar with the area) next September so that'll be my excuse to go every chance that I get next year so we should definitely try to meet up.

WV, I also frequent the Fayetteville/Summersville area and the southern parts of the Monongahela. I saw the trip you planned at Watoga and I'm a little mad that I missed it this time around. Do you ever get together any other times during the year?

And thanks for the warm welcomes.

Welcome! At one point in my life, I lived in East Pea Ridge! Good memories of Barboursville.

I don't get out much due to family obligations, but Dolly Sods area is a favorite. Country Roads and I did a hike into Roaring Plains in June, just down the road from the Sods. Then WVWanderer and I biked and hammock camped the Greenbrier rail trail over Labor Day weekend with logistical help from WV. One night we stayed at Watoga. I have to say, Watoga is becoming my favorite campground. Just wish it was closer to me.

Yes, a meet up with area hangers would be great!

I lived in Stamford Park for 10 years. Huntington is a neat place, but it is unfortunately very far from most of the beautiful spots in WV.
