Ok - for anybody that is still following along - all 5 of you anyways - I did some research on various VBulletin sites and how they implemented the "like", "thanks", "thumbs up", etc. feature.
I did find one implementation that I thought had potential - scubaboard.com
It checked a number of boxes for me - minimalist real estate taken; the site doesn't go overboard (get it?) on giving you badges or reps or whatever for how many "likes" you given or received; and my favorite part - at the top of the thread, you could use the info to get an overview on posts that people liked.
It was this last part - making the data useful - that would sway me to get behind the "like" request.
I mean, who wouldn't find it useful to quickly find the most liked posts within the TurtleDog stand thread instead of reading all 2000 posts.
Anyway, here's a 4 min video showing all this.
The first 2 minutes show what I don't like about some sites implementation (my own personal opinions).
Skip to the 2 min part if you want to see the ScubaBoard implementation.
