Hello from the Shores of Lake Superior

    Hello everyone,

I'm from the beautiful Duluth, Minnesota and I've been addicted to hammocks for about four months now.

I purchased a grand trunks double from Duluth pack at the beginning of the summer and have been using it every chance I can get. As it is getting colder I was looking into ways to extend my hammock season and landed here. I am heading up the Superior Hiking trail on halloween weekend with some college friends and can't wait to try out my new setup. I have the aforementioned grand trunks double with a nice half inch closed cell pad and my somewhat bulky but trustworthy Alps Mountaineering Blue springs 20 degree bag. I have yet to get a true rain fly although as long as it's not too windy my cat cut poly and gorilla tape one is hard to beat. I'll be perusing the forums here and eventually working on sewing my own UQ from an old sleeping bag. So that's the game plan, maybe I'll be proactive and try out winter camping, but we'll have to wait and see.

    Hope you're all doing well.

    Peace

Hello and welcome. Check out HF member Shug's videos (youtube channel Shugemery). He's in Minnesota, spends a lot of time on the SHT, has a lot of useful videos and is a fun guy to watch.

Welcome! I agree with Bubba about Shug's videos. Between him, Hikingdad, and Hillbilly Deluxe, you can get a pretty good tour of the SHT. Oh yeah Fronkey has a through hike video as well.

Welcome to the forum. I've been through Duluth on the way to the Gunflint Trail ... long before I found hammock camping though.

Welcome from the North! A few of us from Canada spend quite a bit of time down on the SHT. Lot's of great hanging there, and lots of group hangs as well. A great way to see other peoples setups. Welcome to the site!
