Things to do and places to see in the South West: Trip Plans

We are planning to head to the Southwest late November.

Looking for suggestions of the "Top Ten" places in each western state to visit.

More important to me though is, where would you go if you had all ready seen the top ten?

Traveling with a truck and trailer for a base camp. Boon docking and dry camps are OK also.

    Hammock and gear for outings.
Overnight hikes, to a week, but I probably can't get the other half to stay out for longer than that

Pretty open on the return home date. Maybe after the snow melts in Mi

    Thanks for the input

It's not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body,
But rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting,
    Woo Hoo!....What a Ride!

Tom, Hike into Bryce Canyon (not just viewing from the rim. It takes half a day. Can't miss Grand Canyon. Also Buckskin Gulch is one of my favorites. Also Yosemite it you go out that far. Petrified forest is also a must see if you are in east AZ

    which particular states?

Stand on the corner in Winslow...at least ride by the Wigwam motel in Holbrook

    Sedona

I SECOND Yosemite if you go that far - DO NOT MISS this if you get that way and DO NOT plan just one day...it's a "sit down on a bench and cry" if you only have one day kinda place...

I SECOND Bryce as well. Catch a sunrise....Navajo loop trail...there's a longer trail too..can't remember the name.

Also - when you get back to the main road from Bryce, head straight across - there's National forest over there with plenty of established sites for boon docking with night skies like you may have never seen.

    ZION also.

SO much to do out that way with plenty of open space to roam and explorer. Wife and I LOVE CO but I gotta say, UT is an equally amazing place. Around Bryce, keep an eye out for dirt roads...most of 'em are quite passable and have plenty of boondocktunity...

There's a BLM area you get to in MOAB by turning at the McDonalds...awesome turf up that way...

Canyonlands and the white rim trail if you're "4 wheel" ready...

If you're passing through South CO - Keep Great Sand Dunes and Zapata falls on the list..

Heading for Quartzite AZ, for the big flea market mid January, will stay on BLM land while in that area.
We will take our time getting there, and go whatever route has the most to see and do. That is why I need lots to do on the way out, while in one place, and on the way back.

'Classic.' A book which people praise and don't read.” ― Mark Twain

Who cares about showers, gourmet food, using flush toilets. Just keep on walking and being away from it all.

There are times that the only way you can do something is to do it alone.

Chaco Canyon in New Mexico is worth a visit. Also Mesa Verde just in Colorado by Durango.

I've been to a few remote cliff dwellings in northern New Mexico. Not sure how to find them on any map. A friend took me there years ago.

New Mexico is a load unto itself...just follow brown and white signs - you should find yourself with plenty to do..
