    Strength ratings are determined by liability as much as anything else - manufacturers often grossly underestimate the strength of their products b/c they know someone is gonna push the limits. For example, my HH BULA is rated to 200 lbs...but I've had ~250 in it overnight before and never noticed any difference.

    Engineering-wise, it would be the weakest link in the system...which varies by model based on materials.

    But in the end, I wonder how many manufacturers actually test for their strength ratings. More like sticking a wet finger in the wind, I bet.

    I use 1.9 oz ripstop for mine. I have a couple from 1.1 oz but the kind I had was too stretchy.
