    A passing curiosity

Nothing Earth-shaking here - just something that came up in conversation with a friend of mine. Are the Dutch $30 hammocks manufactured in-house or farmed out to a separate factory to be put together?

Considering the low cost of the product, if there's an answer here it'll settle a bet. I suggested that $30 is too low to be farmed out and all work is done in-house. My buddy suggested that the work has to be done elsewhere because there's so much other stuff Dutch is getting in to these days.

I would also think in house. It would seem that inventory cost would be to high to farm it out, due to overhead expenses and such.

He must be a very busy guy!

I would say outsourced locally most likely only reason I say that is I was one of the first batch that was not triple sewn on the ends ? don't know dutch but I think he was surprised they were not done that way ? he seems like a super detail oriented guy that if he was doing them himself that would not have been missed ? again no idea but my thoughts
I could see some college student who knows how to sew being able to kick these out for say $5 per and do it in a few minutes kinda thing if they are good

The answer is both. I hired a seamstress who works here but also makes some stuff in her home. It is the beauty of having the new building, although what I though was an endless amount of space is quickly shrinking. Turns out hammocks take up a lot of space to produce. One thing nice is if I get to see Cannibal again I will finally have more hammocks. Speaking of which I just added Green and Grey to the ARGON hammock choices.

I have been spending time on the sewing machine lately. Mostly prototyping and making my own gear. It has been a long time since I have spent a considerable amount of time sewing. It is really great to have all the fabrics, rope, and hardware a DIYer could want. I hope to make some designs I've only thought about come to reality.

May I say I love my job!!! LOVE IT

Local seamstress who makes stuff in her home as well?

Dutch, are you farming your stuff out to the Mecks?

Really, it must be nice to have the sort of expansion you've recently experienced - speaks volumes about both your product(s) and level of customer service. Keep up the good work!

At first glance, that picture appeared to have a roll of toilet paper hanging off the shelves...
