Trying to make a continuous loop of Amsteel that won't come loose

I found out this weekend that what I thought was a locked continuous loop was not locked at all. I had it on another piece of Amsteel using a prussic and it can apart. I am sure I have seen on this forum how to make a continuous locked loop but for the life of me I can't find it. Can someone help me out please?
    Thanks guys

Gresh, that video makes the loop with a brummel and not a locked brummel. While it adds a little resistance, it can be pulled apart just like a simple bury. However, this is the method I use and for my purposes I have never had one come loose.

To make a "locked brummel" you would fold the ends the opposite direction and bury them back into themselves. This leaves a small bump at the joint and relies on the two ends being looped around each other for strength instead of the usual constriction on nice inline burys. I'm confident the "locked brummel" also provides lower strength but I've never heard of one breaking when used for hammocking.

To lock a loop made with simple burys or non-locking brummel, lock stitching can be used.

yeah in that video, about 4:45, he mentions to "not pull the mark through"; that is where you can make the cont loop not locked or locked... a locked brummel would be if you pulled the mark through then buried the tails.

Thanks ShellHammock, so you are saying if I push the marked point through the hole shown at 4:45 and then finishing as he did it will lock the loop?

yeah that's right David. You can pull the loop tight before you burry the tails to see which side each tail gets buried (go in the direction the tails are pointing). you'll be left with the 'bump' gmcttr mentioned.

btw, you won't need to burry but only about 3 inches of tail because you are not relying on constriction to hold fast, it's the lock doing most of the work

happy to help! I do a lot of splicing and find myself saying "not-locked. locked" as I push the mark through... it's always been a good visual for me!
