I first pull the amsteel tight with a pair of pliers. This causes the diameter to get a bit smaller. About 1 inch from the end, I cut the amsteel at a 45 with a very sharp knife so it does not fray. I wet it a little and thread it trough like a needle. It may help to give it a little twist as you thread it through. hold the amsteel very close to the cut end. If you have to push it will widen and try to fray and you will need to try again. Practice with a scrap piece so you do not ruin/shorten the leader.

Is it normal for the leader to look like this after using the Hammock Anchors?

I tried to pull them as tight as I could before getting in the hammock to minimize slippage/stretching. You can see the compression where the anchor was and then bunching of the loose end. This was the first time I have used these leaders, so maybe the Amsteel stretched some? The Amsteel above the anchor is now much stiffer and less pliable. Should I stretch the whole leader?

I dont think so but if it keeps doing that to your lines then you should probably find another way to set up .
You may want to check out the anchor closely for any sharp spots or rough edge's before using them again.

That is a lot of damage for a one time use. Did you install these per the makers instructions?
I know there was another vendor that was making something similar has stopped selling his model do to line damage.

I have had the exact same thing happen several times. I have checked and rechecked the way I was using them and it's exactly the way he says. I loved the ease of use but I have stopped using them just for fear of breaking a line.

I checked the anchors for burrs before using them and they looked clean. They run up and down the amsteel without catching.

I definitely used them as the videos describing the correct use show. I weigh about 215lbs so I might try putting a double twist on them next time.

Dutch did stop selling his Speed Hooks for this reason. These (and the speed hooks) are just so convenient and easy to use.

Did you stop using them after noticing damage the first time? I really want these to work.

They don't look near as damaged after running my fingers across the area a few times.

You will run into several problems. They are not designed to be used with Dyna.
