I'd really like to make a load bearing mini hammock/hammock chair like the AHE Bushman Hammock Chair.. but I have no idea what size it should be.
Has anyone made one that can share some tips and measurements?

The hammock chair/full size kid hammock I made was 6.5' x 4'. Works great as a chair on day hikes and as a hammock for my runty little brother.
Try it and see if it feels comfy. If not, you'll have a gear hammock. :-D

I made two of them at 40x60" and they are comfy for my 6'-1", 200# body.

I agree with MAD77 that smaller sizes work. I've made a couple hammock chairs at 3' by 5'.
My gear hammock/pack cover/ground cloth/summer sheet/butt sling is also a 3'x5' design with channels on all 4 sides and a continuous strand of cordage going through the whole thing.

I did just that (prior to seeing all the responses concerning smaller hammock chairs). I ran whoopies through the end channels and through up my straps with Dutch buckle suspension. I had to get creative to test it, burying a 2x4 about a foot deep, with 3'above ground angled away from the head end tree, and guyed out. Worked like a charm. It worked to well in fact.
3 hours later.. I woke up
My main pack cover has an adapter built in for quick conversion to a Water bag/Grav filter (just a plastic nipple that runs through it) Making it quite painful, and structurally questionable for a butt sling, or even a gear hammock. So thankfully, this hammock chair will serve quite nicely as both the chair, and the gear hammock.
The final product is 42" wide, 60" long, rolled hems along the 60" edges, and a 1", triple stitched channels on both narrow ends.
