What is the advantage of a multicam WBBB

I am 5'11" and ~180lbs, and looking to buy a WBBB DL XLC as my first true camping hammock. First, should I bother getting a 1.7, or can I get by with a 1.1? I wanted the XLC because the 6' capacity on the regular BB worried me because of my height and I like the removable bug net.

I have looked at the specs on their site, and I know there are some slight differences in weight and weight capacity between multicam and non-multicam models, but can anyone explain the advantage of the multicam model over either the 1.7 or 1.1? Are you just paying a premium for the camo fabric used to make the hammock? Thanks.

No one can see you if you're camouflaged!

I honestly can't answer your question. Seems like a lot folks think they need to camo everything these days. Maybe this is just one of those times? I often see the "(r)" next to Multicam, so my guess is that it being a registered trademark... you have to pay a little extra for that too. Looks like it's a slightly denser material too.

So true! I try to limit my camo attire and gear except for outerwear when I absolutely need it for turkey and deer hunting (but I do very little these days). Regarding hammocks and tarps, I find that my WBBB and olive brown tarps blend in so well in all kinds of woods; sometimes even in winter with snow on the ground.

True multicam is owned by Crye Precision and they charge a premium for people using the pattern, hence the price. Also, if you notice on the XLC, the multicam is a fairly thick fabric, 1.9 with an OD 1.1 inner layer. It looks REALLY good and the 1.1 against your skin really feels nice.

No, you are well within the weight parameters of a 1.1 dbl. Unless you want a much stiffer feeling hammock. I'm 6-2 and 250ish and was right at the line, 275, when the WBBB XLC 1.1 was purchased. I find the 1.1 dbl to more comfortable than the 1.7 dbl, YMMV. IMO civilian camo is mostly a fashion statement. For true stealth...well, there is a reason snipers use Ghillie suits and fixed positions use netting.

any single layer hammock or low weight DBL should be fine for you, as long as you are a responsible hammocker (no shoes, no sharps).

I am 6'1" 200lbs and use the WBBB XLC 1.1 DL. It is plenty strong for me and should be right for you too.

If you haven't already, you might want to scan this thread?

    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...s-the-question

I have a 1.7 XLC DL and am about your size. I've slept in the hammock the last 9 nights while on vacation. I'm being careful with the hammock and like its feel but I'm beginning to realize there are lots of ways to pull or nick the hammock even being careful. Although I don't have data related to the fabric's resistance to damage, my hunch is that the 1.7 may be a little more resistant. But just my hunch.
