Head End Lower? By This Much?

So on a trip this past weekend I set up with my head end 10-12 inches lower than the foot in my new WB XLC. Ive done this in the past with my WBBB with success in relieving calf pressure and to prevent sliding down toward the foot. Night one, no calf ridge but I had to pull myself back up toward the head end at least 5 times. So, day two I lowered the head end down more, night two still no calf ridge and lidding down was reduced but not eliminated. Day 3 I was over at the fire and looked back at my hammock and the hear end was at least 18-20 inches lower than the foot! I have heard that some folks lower the head more than they used too with good result but this seems extreme........ Please let me hear your thoughts on this.

PS The trees were 15ft apart and I checked my angles and they were very close to 30* FWIW.

How close to centered between the trees do you think you had the hammock? 18-20" does seem like a lot but it's all relative to personal comfort....what works for you is what works for you and that's what counts. I go 2-3" at most in my BB but more like 4-6" in my RR.

In my XLC i go just low enough on the head end that i can tell by looking at the ridgeline that the head is angled lower. probably 3-6 inches, never really measured it.

I would guess mine differ by about 12". I think it also depends on where you are in the hammock. If your head is closer to the end, a larger difference is OK. If your feet are closer to the end, it seems like it would be more noticable. I'm not speaking from first hand experience though, so maybe someone else can confirm.

I'm an easy 16 lower on my XLC or I get an awful calf ridge. Sometimes more or less. I'll grab a photo of my turtledog stand later, as I drop my ridgepole itself on the head end.

Update: I measured my drop at 16.5 inches. That's the minimum drop for me to be comfortable on my stand, but likely the same in the woods. Here's the photo to show.

If I understand this correctly, you had your head end 10-12 inches lower and you were still sliding towards the foot end?
I generally just make my head end a few inches lower and have no problems so it seems like something else must be at play here. I'd be interested in seeing some pictures of the hammock hung with the head end 10-12" lower and then another picture with you laying in it. Are your legs exceptionally large in comparison to your torso/upper body?

On my WBBB normally 12" lower. More is better than less.

This may be elementary to ask but what was the grade from one tree to the other? If a slope, you have to take that into consideration. I've been fooled by a gentle slope myself, but then I am easily confused anyway.
