Not sure what "knackered" means, but I bet it's a good thing. That's one heck of a trip; I'm more than a little jealous.

Not the prettiest of descriptions, but Wiki says:

A knacker is a person in the trade of rendering animals that are unfit for human consumption, such as horses that can no longer work.[1] This leads to the slang expression "knackered" meaning very tired, or "ready for the knacker’s yard", where old horses are slaughtered and made into dog food and glue. A knacker's yard or knackery is where this takes place, as opposed to a slaughterhouse, where animals are slaughtered for human food.

All great places, although Switzerland was hideously expensive - even more so than the UK and that's saying something.

But there was one country which stood out above all the others - I'm intending to keep it to myself so as to avoid commercialisation but I guess I can make an exception for my fellow hammockers.

Montenegro is amazing, as cheap as Kosovo or Bosnia but without the worry about landmines. Crystal clear, turqoise, lukewarm Adriatic Sea. Friendly (in fact charming) people, stunning mountains (especially around Lovcen) with huge gorges and beautiful rivers to camp beside (also crystal clear). Tavat is also a wonderful area for camping.

Just don't tell to many non-hammockers.

Yes a warning to anyone who's thinking of visiting Bosnia or Kosovo - stay on the beaten track and don't try camping wild, stick to official campsites. We were warned but it really came home to us with a nasty shock when we realised that the round thing we could see in a river was a landmine that had washed out.

Kosovo is also still volatile, UN troops all over the place, shelled out buildings and bullet holes in the walls, we didn't even stop overnight. A pretty enough country and it'll be nice when it settles down but a place to avoid for now. Apart from the landmine issue Bosnia was fine.

Any pictures of your hammocking?

Well my friend just sent me some pictures unfortunately only one shows the hammock but he says he's got more, he just hasn't got round to sending them yet.

Anyway here's a picture of me packing away my sleeping bag by a river in Montenegro with the hammock in the background. You can't see the ridge line but you can see the netting being held up by it. We didn't need tarps at all south of the Alps but I liked to have a ridge line anyway. My friend seemed to prefer just tying the shock cord directly round the support tree when not using a tarp.

I'm also including a picture of a gorge in Montenegro just to illustrate what I mean by stunning scenery.
