    Multicam Silnylon now a REALITY

Throughout the 11 months we've existed, Ripstop by the Roll has made me very happy. What started out as a way to move a little extra hammock fabric has evolved into a full fledged business that I wake up and get excited for every day. We're proud of the new fabrics and materials we've been able to bring to the DIY community - MR silnylon, HyperD diamond ripstop, and others to come in the future.

That being said, I'm not sure I'll ever be more excited for a new product than I am today. After endless phone calls, texts, pleading, emails, and face-to-face meetings over the last six months, I'm proud to announce that MULTICAM SILNYLON is now a reality! Multicam sil is something we've needed for quite a long time - like a really long time. There are threads dating back years that talk about it, but for various reasons it just never became a reality. I was tired of being told we were too small of a market and then having to settle for other patterns when we really wanted Multicam.

The manufacturing run will result in a total of three new products:

    1. MULTICAM silnylon - Lighter tarps. I handle fabric and materials every day and I've sampled a lot of silicone coated fabric from a lot of different places. This one is the best. Not that the rest aren't good, it's just this one is that much better. It's a 30D nylon made in the USA with incredible abrasion resistance, strength, and the highest-quality sil coating. If you're looking to build a super-shelter, this is what you use. The finished weight of around 1.3-1.4 oz/sqyd will make a Multicam tarp that's 60-70% lighter than anything you can currently make or buy from any vendor.

    2. MULTICAM breathable/uncalendered - Lighter hammocks. This is the uncoated version of the silnylon. Very strong, highly abrasion resistant, and treated with a high-quality DWR, it's the toughest 1.1 oz fabric I've tested. Hammocks made out of this will be 25% lighter than ones made with Epsilon and 40% lighter than those made with 1.9 oz Zeta.

    3. MULTICAM breathable/calendered - Lighter quilts. This is the downproof version designed for making the lightest Multicam quilts in existence.

As far as timeline goes, the manufacturing run has finished and we're just waiting on delivery. I will have all three new Multicam fabrics up on the site and available for PRE-SALE by this Wednesday. I'll announce the pricing in this thread ASAP. Once we get everything in, we'll start packing orders in the order they were received. I'll announce when they are up, but you can also keep a check here:

I want to close by saying THANK YOU once more to everyone that has supported us to this point. We couldn't think about doing something this big if it weren't for the support of the HF community. This is a very large investment for us, but in the end we think it's worth it. If there's a fabric/material out there that makes hanging that much better, we'll set out to do whatever we can to make it happen.

Wow! This is incredible! Even the vendors making quilts are using heavyish epilsilon, so now we can have camo at no weight penalty? Count me in!

The weight looks to be about equal. Epsilon is 1.55 oz/sq yd, this is supposed to be 1.3-1.4 oz/sq yd.

The principal gain will be the sil. Until now, Epsilon was the only choice for even a marginally water resistant lightweight tarp. It uses a Nanoshpere coating, which is really great, but designed more for clothing and bags than it is for tarps, its good for light to moderate rain, but not for an inundation. And, its a coating. All coatings degrade or wear off in time. The only other choice is the 1.9 PU coated that is on the RBTR website. Sil simply lasts longer and is more water resistant (the most water resistant is the PU, but you can't classify that as "lightweight").

I do have one question, though.

    Is this licensed Multi-Cam?

Great for you and great for us. Any improvement and/or addition of varied product will/should ultimately help in getting a drop in the price of other fabrics. Thanks to you for pushing it until it happened.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

wow took several years to get here worth the weight - someone remind me why PU is important?
