Thanks to meck, I am sure now that I know how to do it. I will get started on it this week. I like the peekabo part of the netty, but I want both attached. I also will keep the zippers and triangles in between the 2 layers to hide the stitching.

Hey meck, thanks again for letting us demo your gear. Great work. I like the poly. I do have 2 questions, why use the bigger zippers on the netty? Also why is the trangle at the foot end dl and the one at the head is sl?

We use #3 zippers on the Netty and #5 on the Envy, so the zippers on the Envy were actually bigger. I think you may have the names of our models reversed, as the Envy is the one with the Peekaboo cover. The only reason for using the bigger zippers on the Envy is that extra long separating zippers are difficult to source, and to date we've only found them in #5. The separating zippers allow for the bugnet/Peekaboo cover to be completely removed and interchanged.

The triangles at both ends are DL. My guess is that the fabric stuck together more on one of the ends than the other. The reason for DL is just for a little extra reinforcement, since there can be some extra stress on them.

Glad you got to check everything out. Hit me up if you have any questions!

I am not good with names. I was in the middle of all new people with new names to put faces too. Yes I was only slightly confused.

I tried to seperate it, but they triangles could have been stuck together. I figured they would be.

So I should have take pics as I went. After all my machine issues, including zapping myself as I was sewing, I am back on track and finally working on this. This is of course the first item I am making for myself (in terms of a hammock or anything sewing more than tree straps or splicing).

I am using 1.6 argon (grey) and so far I have in almost done. At least the main items. I have many custom features I will be experimenting with. The dl with triangles is done and I have added the zipper and bugnet. I have to secure the dl and run a second row of stitching around the zipper to the hammock body. I have already done so with the bugnet. Most of what I am doing is overkill. I am sure the extra stitching in because this is my first sewn bugnet and I was not confident on where the pressured issued would be. I also wanted the dl to be usable so I am going to play with the design of stitching for access. Both sides or one side? one end or the other or both. This will also be the first dl I have used and although I have an underquilt I like fat guy options.

This is what I have learned so far. For the record I am not a design on paper kind of person. I may be able to do that now that I have done it, but I do better working the issues out in my head. My goal was to make this unlike others that I have seen until the mecks newer stuff. The cover is on the inside of the bugnet. It’s a dl and the triangles are dl to be able to hide the bugnet and cover which are attached permanently to the triangles on the head (cover) and foot (bugnet) ends.

The hammock body was done in the same manor I have done any other except not sewing the dl together along the length of the hammock. I used zip ties to do and undo the ends to measure the triangles. I then hemmed them and sewed them together before sewing them in between the 2 layers. I stopped sewing about an inch from the ends of the triangles to allow for me to do the same thing with the zipper coils. I am trying to make this look as good from the inside as the out and used this all the way around with the zipper to. I then grabbed the zipper coil and began to sew it in between the 2 layers. ***** learned moment****** Leave about 2-3 inches extra coil at the beginning and end. I didn't and had to fix that later. I didn’t measure the coil; I just started sewing it all around and back to the other side of the starting point. The next thing was to hang the hammock and pin the bugnet. ****** learned moment****** pin, pin and more pin. Take your time and pin as much as possible. I am not a fan of pinning. I almost never use them. I work as I go. When I was at this point it was 1am and I was trying to finish this to use the next day on a boyscout camping trip. I stopped at 230am and realized it was doing things drunk. I lacked strong will and a good attention span. ****** learned moment***** do not attempt this stuff while being tried and in a hurry. I did not pin very well or as often as I should have. I then started sewing upside down. ***** learned moment***** don’t do that either. I could not see the bugnet under the zipper. I was also fighting with the lack of pinning. So although I had to redo some spots it actually wasn’t too bad. I had planned and finished a second run of stitches. The net is a little wavy along the zipper line but fully functional without any hang ups or issues. It’s just aesthetic. Although next thing I am about to talk about is another learned moment I am not yet sure how to fix it or if I care other then again aesthetics, but I didn’t make the transitions back to the fixed triangle very good. This is more of a product of the bad pin job, which is why I am less concerned with finding a solution. When I sew the cover on I should better resolve this with better pinning.

The last part I worked on was the zipper coil ends. I decided to take a piece of the triangle fabric and fold it around the end of the zipper. This will fix the lack of extra zipper and also serve as the stop for the zipper. I think I also want to get the metal to crimp the end.
I will take some photos from this point on and show what I have done. So in terms of the main project I only have to sew the dl where I decide is needed and put the cover on. And a stuff sack.

I am going to working on storage, zipper convenience, tie out, magnets, uqp tie in. I also have some ideas attaching the tarp.
