You can get a 36"x60" or 36x61" Climashield for $15-$20.
That's pretty much the perfect size for a PLUQ.

If I am reading the specs correctly, it would add 5-9.5oz depending upon which weight you bought.

Here's my PLUQ as it stands now.Attachment 96090
That's a great price. I wish I had known how easy it was to make a PLUQ and throw some Climashield in it before I bought my expensive underquilt. I would have bought it eventually but not at the same time as my Warbonnet Black Bird XLC. All that together kinda broke the bank.

    Thanks for the pic.

    It's a tough call.

My PL was $20, SBiners $6, $10-$15 in Shock Cord.
Climashield with shipping will be probably $30.
SO then you are $60-$75 in and your UQ is heavier (right?) than a 'real' one.

I'll still likely do it anyway as I am also building a rig for my 10 yr old son who is a Scout.
And I like to tinker and learn.

I also now have leftover shock cord
Working on a Sleeping Bag conversion now too.

Might end up heavier for winter use but still $100 less which means more money for more gear. Plus the pluq can be converted from winter to summer by removing the climashield insulation if not sewn in. Plus you always enjoy the diy gear more because you made it.

Nice info and great info on the Climashield vendor, MidTNJohn.

I've taken my new-sew PLUQ down to around 40°F with no problem. However, I'm planning for near freezing temps next month so I'm considering a Climashield add-on. Has anyone worked with that stuff before? Does it have enough rigidity so you can just slide it between the two layers of the Poncho Liner like a pad?

Saw this thread and started looking at local mil surplus stores for poncho liners. Now the tough part is to decide which pattern to use...

Woodland camo has always been my favorite but it's nice to have so many choices too. I usually camp in spots too close to the trail so camo helps.
