    White Mountains Hike

Planning on hiking the White Mtns next year and it looks like tenting is tough there, I assume a hammock is the way to go? Has anyone taken their hammock up there? I'll be on the AT and I know parts are above treeline but I think getting down in the trees is possible most days.

One of the reasons I got into hammocking is the lack of suitable tent sites in the Whites. There are almost none outside of designated campsites, unless you're above the treeline with a freestanding tent (but I wouldn't want to be that exposed in the Whites). Due to the density of the forest, it takes a good while and some luck to find a hang site. You have to get really low to find suitable trees. The Alpine trees at the higher elevations are dense, scrawny and all conifers.
