That's a nice idea, but unfortunately removes the weight advantage that speed hooks had over whoopie slings. You still have a small advantage in minimum hang length though.

Hey Dutch, If you need anymore testers to test version "2a, b, c, etc" I volunteer. I hang almost every night outside at my place. I personally except the results or failures and won't hold you or Dutchware responsible. How about it?

Tried my speedhooks out for the first time the other night (besides a literally 2 minute test hang during an 8º night). Brand new amsteel. The amsteel snapped after a minute or two – right on the hole it runs through. I am a bigger guy though...still won't use these after how my butt feels today

Wow, strange, I have been using mine since they first came out with out any issues. I really like them.

I don't think that idea of running the lead through the continuous loop and back up to speedhook on itself saves load on the speedhook. No more than the friction against sliding that the two ropes have against each other, which I wouldn't think would be a lot - certainly not double, I'd think.

I have been using mine since I got them ( back in dec 14 , although I got 1/8 and 1/8 amsteel ,and apart from a little discoloration on the amsteel no real problems ,I use the double rap on mine ,not sure if that makes a difference or not
