you folks are driving me nuts here! No really!
All this hype about speed hooks made me go buy a Poly D hammock with a complete speed hook set up. I been wanting something lighter for hiking and this set up along with my bug net and tarp should fill the bill.
Nuts? yeah, I spent someone else's Christmas gift money on it ...oh boy will I be in trouble!

Got a set of speedhooks with the complete kit, my grand trunk nano used to weigh about 20oz with upgraded carabiniers, poly loops and kammock straps, with this the nano weighs 9.5oz and it all fits in its stuff sack.
Great upgrade, I am hooked!
One question about the tree strap ---------so the amsteel is attatched permenantly to the tree strap???? If so, if the tree is the wrong diameter, wont it be hard or impossible to cinch your suspension up really close to the tree with a speed hook? (since one of the advantages is to use trees that are closer together?)
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

That was my thought as well. I guess you'd still need to keep an Amsteel dog bone in your pack in case the tree is too big to get around once or small enough that multiple wraps end up out of position.
I just started using the TI cinch buckles. I think I'll stick with those for awhile. A little more weight but just so easy. Of course, curiosity will end up getting the best of me and I'm sure I'll have to try speed hooks at some point.
