Greetings,,, and weclome to HF.
Hi Atlas...welcome to Hammock Forums. Because there is so much information here, I concur with "Griz" that you may want to start at "Just Jeff's" site (To the Woods) so that you aren't discouraged by information overload here. There is a tremendous amount of info on HF, but some of it can seem like minutiae to someone just starting out. Once you set up and sleep in a hammock, a lot of it becomes a lot clearer.
Don't hesitate to ask any questions that you may have. We are a friendly group and we've all asked a lot of the same questions when we first started off. There are no such things as "dumb questions"....really.
Welcome Atlas. The people you did meet area great group of hammockers.

"Meeting the hammock people"... first thing I thought about was a documentary I saw titled "Treeman Meets Treeman"
Well, if you didn't see it... never mind
Just glad we don't look quite that rustic
And welcome aboard!
I too will something make and joy in it's making
IF you met Stormcrow, Fin and doctari and STILL found the will to come on here and post, you're die-hard enough to join up!
enjoy your new hobbie...and Welcome!

Hey, the Grounders! I was in that group you saw, but we didn't chat at all other than our initial greeting at camp 1. I had an inexperienced backpacker with me as well, and spent most of my time showing the way. I was actually hoping you would have come over Saturday night at camp 3 to check out our gear as we all sat under my BAT and cooked in the rain showers. I think you probably dove inside your tents once the rain started, because I don't recall seeing you the rest of the night. Probably still sucking for breath in that humidity after climbing that sadistic trail. BTW, did you have potatoes for dinner saturday, also? It seemed like everyone in our group did.
Stormcrow and Grizz are two of the best "hammock people" you could have met on that trail. Should have come on over - we would have let you try out all the different rigs and shared some stories. And you could have seen firsthand what DIY hammocks look like, as well as the current "Hot" hammock and my favorite, the Blackbird.
Welcome Atlas. Say hello to a bunch of nice new friends and goodbye to the money in your wallet.

The hammock people will hold you up even when your suspension won't. They will gift you. They are a fine and hearty people. They show respect I do suspect.
You met some of our most beloved and quaint hammock ambassadors. I know that the enthusiasm they spilled upon you was heartfelt and earnest.
