    Desert Camo Bridge Hammock

Thanks to Griz's wonderful tutorials I had to make a bridge hammock. I already had the material to make a desert camo version. I had been working on it and was so close to finishing before going to a scout Council Emcampment last weekend that I had to take my thread injector to the camp and complete it. We were at our summer camp so I had electricity. I finished it Saturday afternoon and slept in it that night. My under quilt hugged it much better and kept me warmer than my Warbonnet Blackbird (though I do love my Blackbird and will not give it up).

I plan on making another with the same width at both ends because I feel like I want a little more room at the foot.

I made the triangle suspension like Griz shows but didn't want to use a ring. So I made an eye splice in the end of my whoopie and hooked it to the triangle apex with a larks head but did not flip the cord over so it looks like a square knot.

Yesterday I saw Dutch's Speed Hook and knew I had to have some. If I hooked it (or a Whoopie Hook for that matter) to the triangle it could slip along the triangle suspension. So I came up with the idea of putting a locked brummel loop at the apex of the triangle. I haven't tested it but it looks like it will do fine and with the Speed Hook and single Amsteel line will reduce the suspension weight considerably.

Looks nice. One of these years I need to investigate the world of bridge hammocks. For the suspension check out the Hammock Anchor. It might work better with a bridge than the speed hook and is actually designed by the same person. He has a couple new toys that are coming out this week, but I have no idea what they are.

Very nice and well done. I am trying to get started on a bridge, still in the very rough planning stage. Plus, members like you keep showing your creations, I am becoming intimidated. I think my first one will be out of an old sheet, see how it hangs then try the good stuff and hope I come out with something as nice as yours and the other DIY Bridge Hammocks members have displayed.

Nice work and thank you for sharing.

    Very nice!

In regards to your plans for another bridge with 'both ends the same' - you might want to do some more research on that before building. It's my understanding (and I've been known to be wrong before..) that having both ends of a bridge the same width will result in a high degree of 'tippiness factor'.

I made an olive green bridge with both ends at 36" this week and tested it in the back yard last night. Temps into to the mid 40's and I slept fine with no tippiness.

So are you using the diamond knots that get larks headed (if that's a word) to the webbing like Grizz does? Could you please take some closer pictures of the ends of your suspension triangle? If so, are you using the whipping knot to cinch the suspension to the diamond knots?
