    Tentsile tree tent

Anyone purchase or use a tentsile tree tent? I've been looking at them for a bit and was wondering what others think of them. I would use it for when I'm going out with friends or when a tent makes more sense but you can still have the hammock feel. If you haven't heard of them I suggest you check them out, pricy but it might be worth it, just google tentsile tents since links never seem to work here (might be because I'm on mobile)

Plenty of posts on HF about them - highly impractical, weighs a ton, costs a fortune. I guess it's one of those things that only the 1%-er, discerning urbanite car-camper could enjoy.

Derek Hanson has one and IIRC he's bringing it to the Texas fall hang next weekend.

    Not sure if he's a 1%'er.

I'll take him for a ride in my Bentley over to get some brie and champagne at the country club and ask him.

Are these reviews from people who've used them, or suppositions from those that haven't?

Its a great system for folks with kids who car camp in places with plenty of trees.

Not for backpacking, unless you think you really need a 40 pound hammock.

Yes they are really heavy, they have them at REI in Nashville. $799 and they weigh about 40lbs if im just guessing. it more like a trampoline with a tent over it from what I can tell.

Their website lists two models one that's 20 pounds and one that is 15 pounds which is still more than I would want to carry any distance. Fun concept, my kids would probably love one.

saw one not too recently in the UK at the Forestry show - was a very nice bit of kit - but i would very much doubt the ease of finding suitable trees on a family camp esque camping ...
but for a fixed base campsite -(backyard or your own woodlot) i would reckon that it would be awsome.
