    Redden Marine Sales Rep Intro

    Greetings!
I am the sales manager for one of Samson Ropes largest distributors... Redden Marine Supply. I think I can save our members some money on Amsteel and other stainless hardware... Let me know if anyone thinks it would help?

My idea is to offer a discount code that only members can use during checkout on the website.
I'm not a hammock expert but looking forward to learning from this forum..
My company sells truckloads of Amsteel and Amsteel blue to the commercial fishing and maritime industry.
    Thanks all!

Welcome to the forum, Amsteel House! I took the liberty to add your website link to your signature line, as is customary for vendors here on the forum.

We appreciate vendors who interact with us here on the forum. Thanks.

A discount code sounds interesting! From reading the stacks of posts of line orders it seems that shipping tends to be a large issue... i.e. if I want to order 50' of 7/64 AS Blue it costs $8, but the lowest price shipping is $8.06. I know S&H costs money, but it seems there could be a cheaper solution. Priority envelopes would ship for $4.95. First Class large envelopes for likely even less.

Small flat rate priority USPS boxes or first class USPS service would make things more reasonable if such an option could be offered. I recognize that your "truckloads" of Amsteel are far too large to ship this way. But many of us (including myself at the moment) only need enough length to do some suspension readjusting. A cheaper shipping method would certainly be an incentive to order from you even if a reasonable minimum order was imposed. I could easily use 25-50'. Not a huge order in the scheme of things but I suspect somewhat typical for many of us.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Welcome Amsteel House. Very nice of you to offer your aid.

Before everyone beats our new friend up too much about S+H costs, lets remember that Redden is a commercial enterprise that needs to make money. It's hard to keep a company profitable cutting off 50' sections of inexpensive line, packaging it up and shipping it. Consumers don't like to hear it, but there is a cost to handling.

Shipping things at cost is what we do between ourselves as hobbyists.

    Please don't stone me.

If I sounded like I was beating him up then I'll stop posting. But lets be real. If we can't say "this is what I use/need" then what's the point.

Rev - I was speaking generically. The tone of your post and the others was just fine. Similarly my post was meant to address an issue but in a light hearted way. Mission failed.

I wouldn't say it failed. I was remiss in not stating that given a choice between a lesser expesnive shipping option and a discount on the per foot cost I would go with the cheaper shipping. Charge me an extra $0.02/ foot for the small order. Save me $3 on the shipping. I can live with that. Of course given both... I'll re-arrange my bookmarks for the rope suppliers I have.

How can I get the blue dye off my blue without compromising the rope?

It gets on me everytime I use the rope and it's a PITN. I've washed it with soap and while it gets a lot off, it still isn't very effective. I'm hesitant to use anything else 'cause I don't want to potentially damage my rope.

PS I think 100 foot lengths would be a reasonable minimum.

Knotty...you are absolutely correct. There is a cost for the packaging itself, i.e., box/envelope, labels, tape, etc. the cost of packing the material to be shipped (someone has to do it), the actual cost of shipping. All of this is part of a company's overhead. I grumble when the cost seems too high. On the other hand, my company charges a shipping and handling charge and it is a base charge plus $.50/item. It's just a fact of business these days.
