    Cheap Permethrine

For those who use it, I just thought I would post that I saw concentrate at my local Tractor Supply has a quart of concentrate for about $8. I imagine you could make about 20 gallons of the stuff for the price of two cans from Wally World.

Just thought I'd share in case anyone could use the info.

The brands which are specifically for treating clothing and gear claim they have ingredients to make the permethrin bond to the material.

If you make your own .5% solution from the bulk stuff will it stick?

I'm no chemist - heck, I didn't sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night - or even my hammock for that matter. On top of that, I haven't used the stuff yet.

However, according to the several articles I've read, the bonding with the fibers in the material is a characteristic of the chemical itself. Maybe somebody who knows more than me can chime in. I intend to try it, but I suppose only anecdotal experience will tell me if it works.

I've herd several others talk about using the bulk/less expensive stuff, but don't know if they had considered the added ingredient to help it bond to clothing.
Sounded like they had been having good success w/ it though.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I've been doing the diluted yard spray idea for a couple of years now. Just make sure you dilute it properly.

I'm lucky in that I'm not a huge mosquito-magnet to begin with; but the diluted yard stuff sprayed onto my clothes and hammock does seem to work for me. YMMV.

I never really even thought about the possibility of there being a bonding agent in the mixture for clothes.

I know it's probably the identical stuff, chemically, but I just can't warm up to the idea of going off-label with an insecticide, and soaking my clothing in it to save 10-20 bucks/year.

This is how I first experimented with Permethrin. The only place I could find that had a clue what I was talking about (little town in Florida; Vero Beach) was a exterminator supply shop. They had it by the gallon, but in concentrate form. The label said something along the lines of diluting 20:1 with water for use by exterminators. I think I doubled the dilution just to be on the safe side; it worked and I don't have any extra appendages....yet.

Found a Bass Pro Shop in Orlando that carried the Sawyer brand and the rest is happy history.
    Trust nobody!
