CRL with Prusik and Wasp vs. Stingerz and two RL

Two Methods one tarp. What are the Pro's or Con's of one over the other? I currently have an Edge and use the Stingerz w/ two seperate 12ft lines. One day hoping for a Winter Palace and wondering if I should switch to the CRL with Prusiks and Wasps. Is it just personal preference? (I know this is probably a repeat question ad nausea...but hoping to just keep it to quick responses on these two methods). Thanks all!

Both methods accomplish the same thing for the most part. The only real difference I can see is the ability to place the RL over/under the tarp with a CRL and the weight of the hardware used.

Try both. Set em up, tear em down, hang em, see which you like more.

Personally I use CRL, with stinger on one end, and dutch hook on the other.

I know Brandon recommends two ridgelines for his tarps, but I prefer a continuous ridgeline (over the tarp), especially with my HG Winter Palace. I just don't like the idea of pulling cuben fiber like that.

    SilvrSurfr,

That's exactly what I was wondering but don't know the science behind it. Do two ridgelines increase the pull on D rings? Does it create more stress for tears? Or Does hanging the CF Winter Palace under the CRL allow more flexibility and less stress in wind? Also, wondering if it is impacted by weight of snow and whether one method over the other is better at bearing weight.

Hudsonhawk, I agree - try it out and I have but with different rope and no Dutch Hook but Taunt Line Hitch on the one end. Personally like the Two Ridgline method because of ease of using the Stingerz on both ends for the perfect V. However, I understand that using the hook on one, is lighter than the Stingerz but would imagine the one CRL w/prussics is a slightly heavier set up. Personally, why do you like the one set up? Just truely a personal choice?

Love to hear peoples personal reasons why? But understand in the end - all choices become a HYOH outcome. Thanks!

I use the prusiks and Wasp CRL. I like the ability to center the tarp over the hammock after the RL is taught. One disadvantage to using CRL is that if you like to swing in the hammock, your RL rubs your hammock suspension greatly shortening your swing time. But the CRL, in my opinion keeps your tarp from sagging.

The main reason I've chosen CRL over the tarp is to keep my pole mod from touching the tarp. I'm switching to using my hiking poles connected to the tarp pull-outs (instead of the Easton nano-lites) with small zing-it whoopee slings and I don't want my poles wearing on the tarp over time.

Useful information on the pole mod. Haven't done it yet but soon will have to if I can find a Ridgerunner. Thanks.

What he said...except I have a Tarp Flyz spliced onto a continuous loop instead of a stinger.

    I like this method currently:

    1) It allows me to position the tarp easily.
    2) Really stable.
    2) Gives me good v's.
    3) Makes it easy to re-position after setting my suspension if needed.
    4) Means I'll always have a bunch of extra line for emergencies if I need to chop it.

I say currently as I've changed it up a few times in the short couple years I've been hanging, and probably will change a few more just to try'em out.
