Looking at the T-bird specs it is easy to see some obvious tactical advantages...like the ability to unzip and exit from either side. Yup, easy to see the AF snake eaters using these. Especially in jungle environments or when wanting the ability to go into serious stealth mode for a rest up.
If I needed to go into "serious stealth mode" I would not be hanging between two trees, I would crawl under a rock or fallen tree.

As for using hammocks in C-130's, I was a paratrooper (parachute rigger). I never got to stay in the plane long enough to think about hanging a hammock although I DID get a lot of sleep in C-130's. Something about strapping on a parachute and sitting in a plane makes me sleepy.

There's absolutely no reason to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

There is EVERY reason to jump out of a "perfectly good airplane." The airforce is flying 'em! LOL I trusted them to take off, I trusted them to fly around, I wasn't so sure that they had that "landing" thing down quite right though! I always prefered to get out myself before then!!

That being said, I carried a hammock with me back then. It was an old "net hammock," which I got at clothing & sales, on post. I used to use it in Alaska, in the summer, and down in North Carolina. Where ever else we found ourselves, if there was somewhere to tie that puppy off too. It also doubled as a fishing net, bear bag, trap, and to keep ....ummm...."canned beverages" cold in Alaskan streams. That old net hammock was one handy device. There used to be a little booklet, sold at the PX, about them. Something like "1000 uses for a net hammock."
Of course, the army would NEVER consider adopting something which so many soldiers spent out own cash on!

I think you're worrying too much. The Air Force never once left a plane up there!

Back on topic, I can say wth 100% certainty that whomever is the target of these hammocks will be more than pleased...if not, I may just take back my retirement paperwork and grab one myself.
