I'll pull the food bag out just to keep the critters from chewing, throw everything not needed into the pack and put it on a tyvek ground sheet under the hammock.

I haven't done this, but I'm wondering why I haven't heard of anyone suggesting hanging the pack? I'm thinking of putting all my food items in an odorproof bag, and then that in the backpack, and hang as a bearbag. Reason for this is to prevent critters from getting in it.

I've never done it but thinking through it there isn't a reason why you couldn't.
I guess if it's UL enough and you can haul it high enough
If it's not waterproof and you care about it getting soaked then you would have to bag the bag somehow.
...but I'll just hang my little waterproof food bag....
If a large critter gets it I still have my pack.
I just hang mine on the foot end of the bridge hammock by the foot spreader bar. I like to keep it off of the ground because the salt on the straps and the rest of the pack can be an attractant to many of the critters.
If I'm cold I would put it under my legs in the hammock.
One disadvantage of this method is if a crafty critter does manage to get your food stash/backpack.... well its going to be tough to pack everything out in a shredded backpack.
I usually sleep with it under my feet; but, also lean it against the tree by my feet. Food is properly stashed in a bear bag or container.
Years ago for scouts we were required to waterproof our packs before bedding down each night. It's a good habit. When you wake in the middle of the night to the sound of an unforeseen rain storm.. you can just go back to bed instead of going into panic mode.
I recently got a pack liner its basically a giant sill dry bag that you put everything in cant be dryer.

I always leave mine under my hammock with the pack cover on it. I may start hanging it though. On a trip this year I met a guy who did the same and woke up one morning to find an animal had chewed several holes in his pack and ruined a brand new Gregory.
