I ordered a 20* top quilt from Under Ground Quilts last week. I've been using a homemade JCP TQ or a Kelty Cosmic 20* sleeping bag. I'm excited to cut some weight and have the convenience/comfort of a good TQ.
I went with the sewn & insulated foot box and hope to be able to take it down to around 15* by using a silk liner and layering clothes. It will be paired with an UGQ 20* + 1 oz Zeppelin UQ.

What made you decide to go with UGQ? I just bought one in the for sale section, but otherwise I would have gone with HG just based on price. I really like the UGQ colors though - I'm pretty excited to get it Friday!
I am the lucky owner of the orange 20° FJ with the insulated footbox that Paul posted in the UGQ vendor section. I also have a Zeppelin 20° with 2 oz. of overstuff. Last winter with the UQ and and a 25° bag I got down to 18 in a single layer of midweight thermals and a beanie and was plenty warm. I think your expectations of 15 degrees is completely doable!
Paul and company make first class gear and it is worth every penny!

Main reason was that I have one of their UQ and like it. Their TQ has the features I was looking for - insulated footbox, tapered design, full length, etc. (I think HG has these too). Without ever holding each quilt in my hand it's hard to say which may have a better perceived value. On paper, you may be right in that the HG is a better buy, dollar for dollar. My guess is that both would server you well.
