Anyone else thinking using a pulk? Road would be perfect for it and trail is wide enough and no real crazy sections from what I remember
If I can make it, the pulk is coming with me.

Sounds fun. Is there a signup sheet? I just did (last weekend) a solo overnight up and over Old Speck and stayed at/near Speck Pond. It was Coooold (with a Capital c...and lots of ooos). No way could you bring a pulk on that one. What's the general gear weigh-in for a trip like this for you all?

Sign up sheet is on the first page of this thread I believe.
My pack weight 2 weeks ago when we went to Imp Shelter was roughly 40 pounds including food, water and snowshoes. If I bring a pulk I may go a little heavier.

yeah. no way going down those ledges to Speck Pond with a pulk but you can rig a smaller pulk with a backpack in it with the shoulder straps to the outside and try carrying the whole thing through tough sections. However on the hike like Old Speck when it is mostly steep up and then steep down I think a pulk is counterproductive. So bummed that I am already going to Katahdin on that weekend. I wish I could do both.

===> Welcome! You should check-out the NEHHA Winter Hang coming up in two weeks! Great location, great food (LOTS of great food!), and gray people. Pretty active group of hangers around here! Glad to have ya! We bring enough gear for extra folks, in case.

    Hope to see you there!

    Thanks!

We both work 6+ day weeks so we have to plan our outings in advance so it won't be in the cards for us this time, but it would be great to make it down. And if the food is anything like what PSH had at the Frozen Butt last year I'll have to come by sometime soon

We'll be doing an overnight in the whites on Jan 14th that should be a lot of fun, looking forward to more winter hangs.

drove by the sawyer pond road and parking area this past weekend on my way to ethan pond. There's a ton of plowed parking right at the base of the road. The road up to sawyer pond is still completely snow covered and should be even more covered after the snow they got the other day and more snow on the way. Pulks should work perfect for this trip!
