    Talking Tacblades Wing Mod

Well I have a great DIY Tarp 3m x 3m and I love it, (hung square not diagonals I prefer a square hang)
but with driving rain I think its not really quite long enough for my 2.7m DD Frontline.

So I have decided to add some Wings, small attachments to the ends I can add or not depending on the weather just to give me a little extra cover at the ends.

The tarp is under the ridge line, but these will just sit on top of the ridge line, ferrimond hitch knots on the top two tieouts for speed with micro paracord, and on the bottom tieouts, just thin shock cord with hooks on the end, to hook into the corner guy lines.
The ferrimond hitches on top will also allow it to be moved along the ridge line to adjust more or less cover, and strong enough to hold against the shock cord

They could also be hung upside down, point upwards to form a kind of door maybe (although I dont really need that) ?

    What do you think ?

Those are Grizz Beaks and can be purchased from a couple of vendors, so obviously you have a good idea there, someone just beat you to it. Check out 2QZQ they sell them. The ones sold or that other people make are actually as wide as the tarp so there is more coverage and it makes a nice dry vestibule when it's staked out like your drawing shows.

    Smile Wing Mod Done :)

Well the Wings are done, really happy with them, think it will give me that extra cover for the ends of the hammock
Made some micro tie out tabs, really small but still strong
Using Ferrimond hitches for the ridge line, and shock cords with hooks for quick tensions on the wing corners .

It's similar to but not the same as a beak. Look at 2QZQ's site if you need pictures. They both add on to the tarp then they get very different.

Nice idea, should solve problems for top down weather. Not so sure about sideways weather where Grizz's design works better but might need a foot more of tarp. No idea without looking in person. So far I like it too. ;-)
    YMMV

    Wings in the Wild

Well testing the wings last night and they worked a treat,
Ends of the hammock were dry, all the main tarp to ridge line connection were also dry,
and it rained hard all night, really happy with them,

and the best bit is they actually look like wings lol.
