My snapped footbox doesn't close all the way, so I plugged it with a piece of silk to keep it from venting when Iwant to trap the heat.

I've been using my DIY TQ with drawstring and snaps. I've gone down to low 20's*F and I'm done with trying to plug holes and such. It needs to be plugged lower than 50's*F.
I do like the aspect of it opening up inside the house and such, but, don't need that in a hammock.
Next TQ will be with sewn footbox if I intend it to go lower than 50*F.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
Good information hangers. I'm all ears
I have a 20* burrow with closed foot box. If I'm to warm then I just pull my feet out of it and it still lays over top of them well to keep your feet warm. No need to worry about any draw strings breaking, snaps not working or remembering something to plug the hole with.
I put in the sewn in foot box, I second SilvrSurfr. I guess I am over sensitive, stuff under my legs such as omnitape, zippers or snaps. I considered the drawstring but decided that bulk would bother me. I love my sewn in footbox, now that I have used it I can not imagine going any other way, I also like that the foot end does not rest on my toes, I have lots of room to wiggle my toes. I like the structure of it.
I started off with snaps on my TQ, the first snaps on the DIY weren't strong enough and I kept popping them open when I stretched so I replaced them with stronger snaps. Still had the same problem so I finally just sewed it shut. I'm happy now in any temp.
BUT, if any part of me is going to be cold, it's going to be my feet. There's only been a few times in the heat of the summer that I've had to pull my feet out of the footbox and let them cool off, usually it's the other way around. I carry sleeping socks with me year round, just different weights.
I'm in the same situation. I keep reading so many different opinions. But overall the majority seem to value sewn for winter quilts so I believe I'm going to go with the sewn for my 20 and then if I end up getting a 40 degree in the future i'll probably get that one with the cinch cord depending on my experience with the sewn. Hopefully HG will have a black friday sale again. That's what I'm waiting for.
I prefer sewn, for simplicity of construction on DIY and weight savings (sure, it's just a couple of grams, but that's another Reece's cup I can bring).

Good reference video:
I have the 20* burrow with sewn footbox and I love it. I chose it mostly for the fact that i didn't want any "moving parts" both for fear of breaking the buttons and/or feeling them under my legs.
