I'm messing around with replacement suspensions today and was wondering if there was a best practice for attaching a cinch buckle to a continuous loop. My thought was to run the loop through the hammock channel with a girth hitch and then have a single-eyed strap wrap around the tree, through itself and down to the cinch buckle. Since the bar on the buckle is not very thick (small radius), I'm assuming it's best to wrap the thinnest portion of the continuous loop around the buckle (the part that doesn't contain the buries). Would this be correct?
When the loop is attached to the buckle, is it better to wrap the girth hitch once
or is the load distributed better by including a 2nd wrap?
Would it be stronger if I place the buckle on the continuous loop during splicing and eliminate the girth hitch connection?
Sorry if I've used the term girth hitch incorrectly. I get it confused with lark's head. Am I correct that they are formed the same but a lark's head is made with a single line while a girth hitch is made with a loop?
