    Cinch buckle to continuous loop

I'm messing around with replacement suspensions today and was wondering if there was a best practice for attaching a cinch buckle to a continuous loop. My thought was to run the loop through the hammock channel with a girth hitch and then have a single-eyed strap wrap around the tree, through itself and down to the cinch buckle. Since the bar on the buckle is not very thick (small radius), I'm assuming it's best to wrap the thinnest portion of the continuous loop around the buckle (the part that doesn't contain the buries). Would this be correct?

When the loop is attached to the buckle, is it better to wrap the girth hitch once

or is the load distributed better by including a 2nd wrap?

Would it be stronger if I place the buckle on the continuous loop during splicing and eliminate the girth hitch connection?

Sorry if I've used the term girth hitch incorrectly. I get it confused with lark's head. Am I correct that they are formed the same but a lark's head is made with a single line while a girth hitch is made with a loop?

The problem is not with strength, but rather with filling the space to insure the cinch buckle can't cock on an angle if the loop slips to one side and stresses the webbing.

    Three wraps does this nicely.

Dutch has a new Ti cinch buckle with a V base to solve this problem.

To add the buckle during splicing you will need to make multiple wraps to fill the space as shown by the left example in this photo.

That makes sense. So I'd actually benefit from a 3rd wrap to get what is shown in your 1st pic.

Is the 2nd pic for a bridge hammock setup?

Yes, the third wrap fills the space. Sometimes if you use the thicker part from the bury of a loop or a larger diameter rope, fewer wraps may fill it.

Yes, the second photo is from a DIY bridge.

Larks head, girth hitch and the cow hitch all form the same knot structure derived from a loop or single rope. The names frequently get interchanged in HF threads.

If you are splicing it yourself on the steel ones, I would suggest the bottom left in this picture. It is done by wrapping it six time and splicing it. 32" will make an 8 inch loop. If you do it like the center one there is more of a chance it will twist because the wraps can more easily slide around the corner and it puts the load on one corner. On the left one the supporting wraps are on the corners so they can't slide around to the side as easily.
