MO, Hawn State Park> South & North Loops on Whispering Pines trail> 6th & 7th December 2014

We're going to plagiarize Gideon's trip for Thanksgiving weekend since some of us couldn't make that and we feel left out of such a great trail.

Let's do Hawn State Park and do both the North and South loops of Whispering Pines trail; if anyone wants to do any of the spur trails, we can leave that option open. Plan would be to meet at the trailhead at 11:00 am and hike half of the approximate 10 miles and make a camp where ever that ends up. Then finish the combined two loops the following day.

[Eidt] If anyone is leaving from the St Louis area, we can meet up around Reavis Barracks and travel together, if anyone is interested.

So there! A couple choices for a hang here in the next several weeks!

PS. Gideon, you're still welcome to go along!

I'm gonna try to get one of my buddys to come down, he has never hung before and luckily enough for him, I have an extra hammock

Thanks for the invite MyDOjO; hmmm, hanging two weekends in a row?

Hard for me to do but I'd sure like to. I'll just hike the loops the opposite direction that I hike them the weekend before. To me it'll seem like a totally different trail!

My nephew will be going also. It'll be his first hang, but he's an experienced backpacker (earned his eagle scout this year and just graduated from army boot).

I'm a brand new hanger just down the road from Hawn in Farmington. I just registered and found this thread last night, so I am not sure if I can make it or not, but, I'm hoping to get out and meet you guys this weekend. If not, I am shooting for the Sam A. Baker hang in January. Looking forward to meeting some hangers and getting into this style of camping!

The weather looks so far to be decent for Saturday and Sunday, but the area down around Hawn is expected to get thunderstorms Friday into the night. So long as that is the outlook, my nephew and I are still planning on going. If matters look like they are changing for the worse, then...I may have to see how January turns out.
