    Torso length UQ question

Was just reading the dimensions of the Yeti....46"L x 40"W
Sounds crazy (to some one who has never been in sub 50f temps in a hammock).

    I am 6'1"
Do you not put the UQ under your head?
On me, it would be top of my head down to mid thigh.
I read a few mentions where people talked about the UQ being under their shoulders.

Then is your pad 30-36" long?

I'll be doing a DIY Climashield (probably Apex6) soon.
I want it to be 'as big as it needs to be' but am trying to stay lightweight and efficient in the process

No need. You can use a small pillow or stuff some clothes in a spare stuff sack to act as a pillow and it will provide all the insulation you need for your head. I have a FL, a 7/8 and several 3/4 lengths and most times I use the 3/4. I am 6ft2
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

As gunner76 said a pillow or makeshift pillow made from clothes/jacket is all that is needed under your head. From there the UQ covers shoulders down. For me under 60 degrees I use the CCF pad from my pack under my feet/legs down to about 20 degrees. Below that I prefer a full length UQ.

Clothes stuffed in my buff for a pillow and a pad under my feet and legs. Have taken my 3-season Yeti to 28 degrees, so far.

Since you are tall.... Take a good look at the JRB torso length Greylock 3 UQ... Now 59 inches long... Great for tall folk.

Also shorter folk with a pillow insulating under the head will find it works well as a full length to near full length depending on your height or rigging preferences.

My first UQ was a torso length about yeti size.. As said, a pillow would be fine for your head.. Under my legs I'd use my frameless pack with the next days clothes in it

I slept in my covered XLC with Yeti last night. 32*. I pull the Yeti to me left shoulder, use a pillow and a home made Polyethylene foam trapezoid - 30" long x 15" x 22" - it goes from inside the Yeti to past my feet - it could probably be shorter. I'm 6' 4". I used my 40* synthetic mummy for top insulation and was too warm - had to vent a little.
