    Hammock Tie Outs position?

Some use Tie outs for the hammocks (I do others don’t) but I am wondering how and why you select the positions you do?
So far I haven’t made any of mine symmetrical vs. the hammock center but chose the position according to my head/shoulder and foot position.
What do you do and why? I am wondering if there is formula or something I have missed?
So far I have only used grosgrain loops but I am also wondering if it makes much difference if it was a sewn triangle besides a wider load spread (not needed IMO)? The only benefit with a triangle I can see besides the load spread is if a bug net is sewn onto the edge the contour for a zipper may be improved but I could be wrong.

I use two tieouts made of grosgrain at my head/shoulder and feet. They end up at 40'' and 48'' from the channel of my hammock. I use two to help with the contour of the zipper. I connect them with a 5ft length of shock cord with a plastic ring on it. To the ring I connect a short length of cord to tie off to my tarp tieout.

That sounds like a great idea for the zipper instead of using a separate piece of material to make it easier to zip closed. Do you habpve any pictures of your tieouts in action? How do you sew the tieouts to your hammock?

I place two tie outs per side, each about 1/3 of the length in from the from the end of the hammock. Picture is from a DL Argon 1.6 hammock I made a few months ago.

What are your reason for 1/3? Does it fit your shoulder and feet pos.?
    Why two per side?

    Nice edge finish BTW.

I agree with Snowball, nice stitching. Thanks for the picture, do you have any pictures of the tie outs in use? How long is your hammock?

I sew the tieouts to the body, then fold over and reinforce with two rows of stitching when I sew the zipper on. I go back and forth a few times to reinforce the connection. Then I attach about 5ft of shock cord with plastic ring on it. To the ring I attach a small continuous loop. Then I can stake it out, or I attach the loop to a mitten hook located on my tarp. Here are some pics I just took.

It looks to me your tieouts are centered on the hammock?
If yes what’s the benefit of that? Obviously to make it widen but it’s the location.... Another mod I haven’t tried yet.

No they are located at 40 and 48 inches from the channel on the head and opposite foot end. Results in an asymmetrical shape. Keeps the net off my face.

    Great pictures and explanation. Thanks!

Is your hammock 10' or 11' long? How wide is it?
