4 Nights on AT, BMT, DRT GA LOOP

Just got back from 43 mile hike on ga loop trail. 26 lb in Golite jam 50 pack. HG 20* top and bottom quilts. Diy hammock and tarp. Temps in 30 nighttime. Stayed warm, 4 th night cloud socked in, windy cold, everything getting soaked from water droplets. Quilts really wet where exposed, tarp wet top and bottom. Got up that morning to more fog, wind, and cold. Wiped water off quilts and stuffed into pack. As I started my hike noticed the moisture freezing on trees. Did not drink enough water, suffering from dehydration had to give up my hike. I was worried about my down quilts buy as soon as I got to my truck I took them out of the pack and they were dry. The moisture apparently did not soak into the down. Pretty impressive I think. Something I did not carry I really needed was head light. I was out fumbling around in the dark holding my flashlight in my teeth. leaves were very thick on the ground, very tough walking coming down hills. Busted my butt several times. Recorded tracks with some campsites, water and more pics on GAIAGPS. Website.

I'm originally from northwest part of Georiga and the north GA mountains are hard to beat. How was the water sources and campsites near the sources. DRT?? not familiar with that trail.

Thanks for sharing the adventure. That's a great loop trail with some good variety of trails.
Country hang...DRT = Duncan Ridge Trail
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

Water is scarce on the DRT but enough to get you through. Plenty of water and campsites rest of trail.

DRT is Duncan Ridge Trail and is considered the toughest hike in Ga. Goes straight up and down every mountain. No much water. I also grew up in NW Ga. North of Rome.

Oh ok, I just know carry extra water isn't fun but as long as its enough get by on i'd be good. Grew up in Chatsworth, spent a lot of time on Cohutta WMA.

Nice pics, and glad you got out without any injuries with the icing up there, it can get really bad I know. That bridge sure looks familiar to me, I think I spent a night looking at it from my hammock about 2 years ago, but it was warmer then! Thanks for posting.
