    Tarp Pole recomendations

Can someone please recommend a size and general tips for making a set of tarp poles. These would be used for "porch mode" no higher than 6'. I found this page and I am lost....

No need for poles if all you're doing is porch mode. Simply take a pair of branches and set them on end, wrap your guylines around them near the tarp end of the lines, and then go to the stake.

    Easy-peasy.

Most folks use their trekking poles for this, but anything that can be set upright will suffice (I've used my bike's seat post before). No need for specialized hardware.

Now, if you're doing a pole mod to your tarp to create extra space inside without extra tieouts, then you'll want flexion in the poles. But I'll leave the specifics of that to others; I've never done it myself.

Bamboo works well. find a couple that can be used for trekking poles then use them to porch your tarp.
Or find yourself some inexpensive aluminum trekking poles.

Thanks everyone. I'm looking for some poles to lift the sides up. A good sturdy stick would work great but the guy who built this house decided it would be cool to not plant any. I made a 11' sunshade, wind blocker to go over my Amazon hammock stand. I don't call it a tarp because it was made from 2.2oz DWR material. It does repel water though. Anyway. I thought it would be a good idea to order some poles from the site listed. The ones on Dutch's site are more for opening the middle. I'll look for some sticks in the woods, I also have a few bamboo poles in the garage so I'll give those a try. Thanks for the replies.

Here is the tarp-sun shade- windbreak. The bamboo works ok.

I will add as a disclaimer this hammock was the first one I made and the stitching is terrible.

Good job on the bamboo poles. I use my trekking poles for different modes.

Porch mode(like your setup), I make one of the poles a little higher to have a slant in the roof(allow runoff).

Storm mode/Privacy mode(both sides down), I put my poles over the CRL to my short, side tieout guy lines to open up the tarp. Your poles can do the same.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Thanks fellas. I made this fly with some cheap magna fabric and I really enjoyed making it. I may try my hand with some real tarp material.
