I've used both the Dutch and the AHE footpads in the footbox of my TQs (2 nights each). All four nights, the temp was below 40, and my footbox was pretty damp in the morning. I used the Dutch pad a few times above 40 with no issues, though. Two of the 4 <40* nights were when SilvrSurfr's feet exploded in the Pine Barrens, for what it's worth.

I'm 6'4'' and for me the 3/4 uq just kills the benefits and comforts of the hammock. Main problem on the ground for me was waking up with a limb off the pad.
Biggest thing for me in a hammock setup (with a full size uq) is the ability to jus hop in and be warm. Without messing about and adjusting and waking up to a could shoulder or feet. Nowadays uq match their weight with inflatable pads so it's the same situation. How much convenience, comfort and good night sleep are you willing to sacrifice to save 4-5 oz....
I would look elsewhere to save space and weight, maybe a lighter tq and sleep in your jacket, or a lithter tarp. My full size uq will be the last thing I give up

I tried a JRB Greylock 4 last night. 26*. I was fine for a while, but woke up at 2 am and could not get rid of freezing cold calves. Used Dutch footpad in TQ footbox, feet were warm, no condensation issues. But backs of lower legs were ice cold.

What is a Dutch foot pad? Some type of DIY? I didn't see anything on his site.

I use partial length quilts to about 10 degrees. Any lower than that and I find it too hard to keep my feet and head warm. That's when I pull out the incubator.

I can't figure out how to solve the calf issue. I guess i know, but I'm resisting: a bigger pad under my calves. I'm also 6'5", so I guess I have more calf than your average bear.

My big thing lately was switching from a standard full length (78") to a short at 73". That fits me perfect.

But I just took my second try at a 3/4. I'm not sure what my obsession is but I want to make it work. I received my 20°+1 Phoenix and set it up.

The coverage is pretty darn good. With booties I'm not sure I'll even need a pad at the bottom. But that shockcord is pretty annoying against my outside foot. I know you're supposed to have it above, which I do. But it presses right against my foot. Maybe I can get used to that though.

a lot of people complain about the calf ridge, but the shock cord on the outside foot is what annoys me to no end. it'll actually wake me up several times in the night because it's so irritating on my toes. i tried loosening it, but that makes it easier for the UQ to slide underneath the foot and off to the other side.
