A little off topic Shrek, but do you have any issues with heat loss through the top of your BB or have you found someone to make you an overshield?

The $150 used version you saw before most likely didn't include a tarp either.

When I first started shopping for hammocks, I wondered if the BlackBird was worth the cost, as the Hennessey, for around the same price, includes a tarp.

I later realized, with help from this forum, that the tarp included on the HH is near worthless for my needs, and so I would have to spend that $100+ to buy a new tarp anyway. So, I bought the superior designed Warbonnet product, supported a cottage maker who hand-sews his gear right here in the USA, and ended up buying SEVERAL tarps for various uses and seasons anyway.

Great, thank you Mustardman. Have you added an "overshield" of sort to your BB? If so, where did you buy it? Something to help keep the warmth in, in addition to an overquilt?

My WBBB came to $171.00 with shipping. I bought a Claytor diamond fly www.mosquitohammock.com (scroll 1/2 way down) because it was all I could afford after buying the WBBB and I had a trip coming up right away. Now I wish I would have waited and gotten a Speer winter tarp http://www.speerhammocks.com/Products/Tarps.htm (scroll 1/2 way down)It is one oz. lighter and gives more coverage and it can be pitched higer for ventilation. But, It is $117.00 + $17.00 for a bag and guylines(I hear speer has the best guylines though) + shipping and handling. I do have to say that the diamond fly kept me nice and dry in some pretty serious rain and wind, I love the camo, and at $50.00 it's a pretty good deal.

I haven't had it out in cold weather, yet. But, I have never considered an overshield. I just utilize my sleeping bag/quilt. (down to 9 degrees) I do have a SWT to use this winter, which should help hold in some warmth.

The netting on the BB actually does a reasonably good job of trapping some heat. I don't usually notice it until it gets really cold, but it does trap some. I like the idea of throwing my rain gear on top to act as a pseudo overcover. Looking forward to trying that approach this winter. Gotta have projects.

I notice that it traps even more heat if you lay out in the hot sun without a fly .
