Never mind, just found an excellent article in BWH magazine. Softwoods are good for lighting but will taint cooking and are bad for sooting up pots. Guess I should have known that. I will have to make a few out of hardwood too then.

This will be true for meats on a stick as well... Do you think we should add wood bundle donations to the spreadsheet, or is that what you envision the charcoal for?

I was kinda thinking charcoal for cooking and wood for just keeping warm. Hence, pine would be fine, though the Swedish matches would be nice for sitting tea kettle or pot on too, since they work like an imprompto stove. Now, I do have a nice tripod, for campfire cooking and a smoker, which can use hardwood (short!), so If someone wants to contribute.....I won't say no but, since I am desperately trying to build stocks for my house, I moved in late in the season and did not have time to stockpile for the winter, I do not want to give the appearance that I am using this event to shamelessly build on my woodpile. I'll just try to cut up some more hardwood this weekend.

I am new to these group hangs, so i am a little amazed in a good way by the amount of effort and production being put in. I thought it was hang your hammock, come sit at the fire and some stone soup. Are all group hangs like this? No wonder they are popular.

I can bring some plastic utensils, but maybe we can all bring our cookkits? For show and tell, but also to cut down on the trash? Anyone have a foldable washbasin?

Will the charcoal be natural briquettes? Because, well, see the video i posted above. ;-)

To answer your question Snoremachine yeeeanoes. LOL Group hangs tend to be VERY well organized where there is a good group to organize them. See "Palmeto State Hangers" or the group which is coalescing around Gunner76 down in NC right now. This is part of why myself and a few others got to talking about organizing a "club" here in the Old Dominion. So WE can have regular, well organized group hangs and events. Believe you me, this is a total chinese fire drill compared to a good one. But we're working on it and, hopefully, after we meet, greet and get things worked out, over food , we will be much further along.
I would love to see our group able to conduct regular hangs, support members who wish to hold hangs, and teach people about ....well...hanging!
To me the great thing about these groups is that everyone contributes a little bit, either materially or effort and, when it all comes together, the group is stupendously wealthy in goodwill, good humor, good friends and good eats! No matter waht work we do, what social strand we hail from or anything else, we come together for a bit of fellowship and wholesome relaxsation. We are like a brotherhood of the trees or something. LOL For a few days we can just let whatever troubles we have just roll away and relax in one another company while we talk "woodsy stuff." It is relaxing and more so if it is well organized to begin with!
    ooo, I "ranted." sorry.
As for the charcoal, I have no idea. You shall have to ask whomever is signed up to bring it. Check the spreadsheat and PM them to ask???

Sorry Man, I thought you had seen the link. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...p=docslist_api I think that will get you there! I confess, I cannot figure you how to get it into the original post.

No worries- it wasn't that I couldn't find/get to the link to the spreadsheet, just time on a PC to do it. It's kinda hard to work on spreadsheets via Tapatalk on my S4...
