Video: Brother Bones on the Appalachian Trail: 2014 Part 3: Fighting Snow to Get to Fontana

Blake (Legs) and I complete the trip that I planned in April. We finally make it to Fontana Dam . We started at Wayah Gap and hiked to Wesser Bald Shelter the first night (15.8mi). In the morning we hiked from Wesser Bald Shelter to Brown Fork Gap Shelter (21.7mi). The last day we hiked to Fontana Dam (13mi). It was a great trip that tested our cold/wet weather endurance and our shorty day stamina. Now, I'm looking forward to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

Thanks for the video and the memories! I just posted my trip report and in it is a picture of me laying down on that overlook edge where you pointed out Albert. That view of Clingman's Dome is unbeatable! Getting out there in low temps is the way to do it man. Can't imagine attempting Jacob's Ladder if it were wet & slippery... Goodness....

Good to see you back out there & able to complete the trail thru Fontana.
You sure get the most out of your hiking day - I think I'd still be asleep when you are leaving

I enjoyed reading your post. I hope to see you back out on the trail soon. The Ladder wasn't as bad as climbing Chehoa Bald as the Ladder wasn't wet but the climb out of Sassafras Gap was wet, snowy, and sloshy.

Thanks, FPG! My wife and my boss both like it, so I'm in the clear.

It all depends on the goals for the day 5am is a pretty common time to wake up in the summer on trips. It was hard staying in bed so long with these long days. I still hope to share an adventure with you sometime.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

Nice job! & another piece traveled through! Glad y'all made it without any issues (except for that stubbed toe).
I've yet to hike down south way, but am of course - very much looking forward to it! Thanks for taking the
time, and sharing! Hope your toe/nail are no worse for the wear & heal better and stronger than they were, if they are.
