It's the easiest 3.1 miles you will ever do. This is a completely flat, crushed limestone path for most of the distance. The scenery is pretty nice though - river on one side, canal on the other. Some wildlife to be seen - early evening deer or eagles in the morning. Though the raccoons seem to have disappeared for the winter, thankfully. It's also a pretty nice campsite right along the river with plenty of nice hang spots.

Okay, it's on the calendar. Will have to get a little closer before really committing.
I really need to get out. :-)

    Where do you guys go?
That first camp west of McKinley on the I&M trail?
Sounds about right for 3 miles or so, I think it's just before the dam/spillway.

I am going to do my best to make it as well. I would not be able to get there until Saturday morning however. As we get closer I am going to need to get some info on a good drop off location. My gear is good, but really bulky. I have read before, that there is a place I could pull up and drop my gear off before I go park elsewhere and hike in?

words from a wise man you cant drive directly to the site but you can get to within a few blocks of it via McKinley woods forest preserve. There you can park and go over the bridge to the trail , continue southwest ( turn right) a few blocks to the site. Cars are not allowed to be parked at McKinley woods over night. Overnight parking is allowed at Channahon state park, which is a 3 mile walk in , and at Gebhard Woods, which is in Morris . Thats a longer hike in. I have been stopping at Mckinley woods , use my 2 wheel dolly and wheel in firewood and water, then go park at Channahon and hike in or bike in. Hope this info helps.

Ok the bathroom is nice, but I'd be scared to sit in that shelter Especially if it snowed!
