Cheap and easy sources for splicing wire.

Guitar strings or hobby shop music wire work great 22 GA which is actually .022" for Lash-it/Zing-it.
Ernie Ball custom gauge 22p is the largest non-wrapped string.
Just about any solid wire in that size will work.

Hobby shop music wire is great.
.036" to .044" works well for 7/64" and 1/8" amsteel.
