I'm going pheasant hunting this weekend, I could bring out my "Pheasant and Wild Rice Soup" for Saturday Lunch.
I could also bring out some of my cousin's world famous Oreo Balls for dessert... they are delicious!
Or I could bring out BOTH!

I'm aiming to please so if there are other suggestions, allergies, etc.. please speak up!
Let me know what you think!
Bring BOTH I'm sure it won't go to waste.

Here's a rundown on the food and who's bringing what. We'll figure out what get's cooked when, later....too much to process right now.

Michigandave: dinner: tater tot chili n cheese caserole, hot apple cobbler w/the secret ingredient, breakfast - sausage gravy for Ed's (HHSnewbie) bisquits
    HHSnewbie (Ed): dinner/lunch venison stew
Squirrelbait (Aaron): some type of venison fajitas
Twistin in the wind: pheasant & wild rice soup for Sat lunch and oreo balls
    Cncd11: Mexican posole (pork)

Not sure about Sunday breakfast, but I know I'm also bringing some venison my buddy brought back from Montana: venison sausage, pepper sticks and bacon. Didn't know venison could be a bacon, but I've got a pound of it I'm dying to try. If anyone wants to take on eggs, we could do that Sunday w/meat (and more bacon). I also have a coffee perk I snagged at the thrift store, never used it, but I'll bring it along if someone wants to be to take on coffee duties, since I have no clue how it works. Counting down the days till Green Timbers! That is all.

I'm planning on being at the trailhead between 8-9 AM, Friday morning...Getting on the road by 5 for the 200 mile trip north.

All this talk of food makes me hungry... And also puzzled over what I can contribute to. That being said, I'm willing to pack in some coffee and eggs if I can engineer a method to keep them from freezing. Any other suggestions? Just don't put me in charge of bacon unless you enjoy the bitter crunch of carbon.

I would say bring both and the soup sounds awesome. I'm going to make venison stew.

Carbon is good for you . Eggs would probably be fine in the cabin or a plastic tote for to keep from freezing. Rumor has it we have some ground dwellers joining us and staying in the cabin.

Sometimes I check the weather often before a trip. Some days were slow at work, so I took a screenshot of the accuweather forecast at 8AM and 3PM every day starting about 3 weeks before the trip. I made separate layers in Photoshop so I could compare how often it changed and to what extent.

I don't have the file with me now, but let's just say the forecasts a few days leading up to the trip and before were absolutely useless. I have no idea why they even try to go more than a week.

But I still continue to look for some reason

We must be one of the only groups in the world who are actually disappointed when the weather is warm!
(...and one of the only groups who think that sub-freezing temperatures constitutes a heat wave!)

Had to make a trip to Grayling today so I stopped by the trailhead to look things over: parking lot was plowed, trail appeared well traveled (packed down) and current base at trailhead had maybe 7" of icy, granular snow (just above my ankle). Snowshoes optional? Note coordinates in my compass snapshot.
