Question about a Singer 301A machine

I could pick this up for $25 including cabinet. I don't need it as I already have two machines but I could use the cabinet I suppose.

Surfing the internet apparently these are very rare, made in the 1950's. Question is, how much could I ask for just the machine or expect to get? It does come with some accessories also and in very good condition.

Nothing particularly rare about the 301A. It's a decent straight stitch machine. Probably could be sold without the cabinet for about what you're buying it for or maybe a little more if you find the right buyer.

Thanks for the quick reply. It's what I figured. The cabinet isn't all that nice so I might just let this one go and wait till I find something nicer for my Necchi.

That's funny: 301s are my wife's favorite vintage machines. She loves them for quilting.

Mine are the Necchis. I have a treadled Lelia 510 that I do most of my sewing on. What model is your Necchi?

I have a Nova BU that I stuck into a portable case from another machine. I'm actually searching for one of those compact cabinets due too limited space.

If you were closer, we could work out a trade. I have one of those Necchi Coronet cabinets that's disguised as a small chest of drawers. Pull out on the "drawers" to pull the chair out. It had a BU Nova in it. 20141221_212807.jpg

I was just thinking, if you found a 301 in a cabinet it's probably a shortbed. They have a special steel cradle in the cabinet to allow you to quick disconnect the machine and lift it out for portable use. You could still put your BU Nova in it after removing the cradle. Some 301s came in a neat Spinet cabinet.

That exactly what I would like to get. Lastnight I sent an email to this person giving away an old Viking machine that is in a cabinet so hopefully I get it.
