I agree with Dutch, extending the tubes and it may not be but a few inches. You may be closer to a sweet hang than you think. I have a tripod based stand that hangs my Blackbird XLC at right around 40" and it's an 11' hammock.

Also don't underestimate the value hanging somewhat low to the ground, it's kinda nice to let one leg lay over and push off the ground to swing or just sit sideways with your feet out on the ground recliner style.

Are these easy to assemble/disassemble? How much weight does this add? I would be interested in doing this if I could fit it inside my motorcycle bags.

It breaks down into 7 pieces, including the two I added, with no tools required for assembly or disassembly. The entire package is about 30lbs, and the largest piece is about 5' long. It's not really all that portable. However it did come with a large carrying case.

I modified it with 3/4" pipe. It's the perfect outside diameter, fitting so tightly that there's no need to bolt it in place. I used two pieces about 20" long, adding a total of about 16" to each side. It's still not enough. With the hammock just barely off the ground (about 3") it's 117" from end to end, about 10" wide than I'd like. I slept in in anyway. It was only ok. I used this length of pipe because it's what I had laying around. Maybe tomorrow I'll go to the hardwa... Christmas. Darn it. It'll definitely work with longer pipe.
